How to Host a National Motorcycle Trials in 2009 and Beyond

Over the years, some clubs have taken on the task of organizing a national (AMA sanctioned) or a world round (FIM sanctioned) motorcycle trials event. Most of the clubs make money doing so, some more than others. It has become clear to the NATC that it may be time to help some new clubs to step up to the plate to do this, so the two lists below help a new club understand what is required and how to get started. An attached list “Event History” clearly shows some clubs have done way more than others. Is it time for your club to get involved?

In no particular order, here are some of the things that you/your club can or should do to be considered to host a national:

1)   Get involved with the NATC. Have your club president get in touch with the current NATC CEO (Brian Behling) via email (bbehling125 (at) yahoo.com) to express interest in being involved with the NATC. The NATC is an organization that thrives because of some great volunteers from many (but not enough) clubs from across the US.

2)   Someone from your club should carefully review the current version of all of the NATC Documents including the Organizer’s Checklist, AMA/NATC supplemental rules, the AMA-NATC Organizer Agreement all posted here on the NATC website.

3)   Talk with a current national rider from your club about what they think makes a successful national and about the suitability of your club riding area for a national.

4)   Take a chance and commit to doing it!

5)   Attend a national (or as many as possible) as a rider, minder or spectator, and look at the things going on to make the event happen.

6)   Send an email to current CEO (Behling) to have a discussion about hosting an event. Brian will call and talk with the club president (only) to discuss.

Information about hosting a World Round Event:

1)   The organizer proposing a USA Wagner Cup must have the approval of the local club.

2)   The proposal to have the event must be presented by your club representative and be discussed at the NATC meeting and approved by the NATC.

3)   The request will then go from the NATC CEO to the AMA for their presentation to the FIM for consideration.

4)   If approved, the organizer needs to keep AMA and NATC in the communication loop.

5)   Any and all US World Round events shall be called “Wagner Cup” in honor of Wiltz Wagner. This should be included in any materials, posters, T-shirts, etc. promoting the event.

6)   The organizer will need to become licensed by the FIM.

7)   The FIM will conduct a site inspection prior to approving your event.
