| Highlights of the 36th Annual NATC Meeting Held in Dallas October, 2008
• We adopted an EIGHT round schedule. Most all 2009 events are during the summer, so turnout for the youth classes is expected to grow.
• Several clubs were guaranteed events for 2010 if they want them (RITC, Sacramento PITS, Texhoma or NTTA, and NMTA).
• We lowered the entry fees to $75 for riders, $40 for minders. Late fees are $100 on Friday before weekend events and $150 for day of event for riders. Minder late fees are $50. The refund period is extended to two weeks after the event.
• We adopted a twin shock class that will ride the support line.
• A chart has been developed showing where the rider entry fees go.
• NATC formalized support to the Youth Trials Series to help it grow.
• A new position “Sponsor Sales Coordinator” has been determined and series sponsor packages are being developed.
• Best National award went to MN; 2 special “Friends of the NATC” awards were given; one to Sid and Dawna Mauldin for their incredible sponsorship of the US TdN team and the second to RMTA for helping to save the national series in 2008.
• There are no current plans for world rounds in the US. STRA has volunteered for 2010 provided some changes are made in the “solidarity fund” FIM program.
• We adopted a special format like has been done at the Sooner Cup and elsewhere for the rounds at the TN venue.
• New environmental checklist will be kept online for all clubs to download and use
• Pete Croft and Jim Watson were chosen to serve on the board for a term of two years
• The backbone of the NATC remains the volunteers willing to spend many hours, uncompensated, to make the AMA/NATC national series a great success. Please thank them when you get a chance:

| Hello everybody
Writing from Atlanta where Cody & I missed our flight because the plane was late out of Paris, Oh well. Anyway, could not get internet to hook
up yesterday after the event. You may know by now that we got 7th place slipping one position. But with what took place, having to have 2 of our good riders have to drop out, I feel we held our ground. We were only a few points behind the Swedes, so I am pretty confidant we can at
least regain 6th Next year in Italy.
The event had one of the longest loops I have ever been on, almost 20km. Very scenic and one heck of a single track trail. Put that
together with the level of sections and you had a challenging event for most of the competitors. We were given 7 hours to finish and we came in at 7 hrs with a 1minute penalty. Cody turned in some very
impressive rides matching the scores per section with some of the best.
Chris also had a couple good rides, in one section in particular, #9 where he was the only American to make it with 1 point non the less.
Keith did ok, had some trouble with conditioning towards the end. Ronnie gained some valuable experience and tried 75% of the sections,
but I had him punch out a few as I knew it would not be in his best interest to get beat up (even though he was willing).
Everyone was upbeat after the event sharing their ideas and what a great experience this was. I have a good feeling for this team for
next year as there are some other good up-comers in both the women and mens group. I really would like to give a lot of credit to our support riders Steve Forsley, Dave Allen and AL Duke who all rode 3 days in a row, first helping the girls then the boys on a tough last day. To say they were tired would be an understatement. These guys were invaluable. What they lacked in experience they made up for in determination, great guys!
I want to thank everyone else for all the support and help that was given to make this possible, Next years team effort will be even better.
Thanks
Kip

| Rocky Mountain Trials Association has decided not to host a WTC event at the Stock Ranch in 2009. Citing concerns about the adequacy of the site in the event of inclement weather, the RMTA has chosen to look for another site and hopes to host a WTC event at a later date. The FIM was informed of the RMTA decison today. Posted by: Brian Behling on September 15, 2008 11:59 PM |

| Wow, what a great year we had in two long weekends! Congratulations to Patrick for holding off a tough challenge by Cody at a fantastic weekend in Duluth!
There are "only" two things left to do: win the TdN and have our annual NATC meeting to set next year's schedule. I took the opportunity while freezing on the starting stage to try to get input on next year's series format from the riders by taking an informal poll asking whether they prefered a series with two 3-day events, three 3-day events or three 2-day events. I'm glad to report that it seems everybody wants at least a 3-weekend series. Here's what I got: 8 votes for the same format as this year, two 3-day events, 23 votes for three 3-day events, and 28 votes for three 2-day events. We will add this question to the rider poll giving all of our loyal riders the opportunity for input.
Many riders also responded that they would ride whatever, they just want to ride. It seems while we struggle a little with our wallets at the pump, when it comes to competing with our friends from across the country, well, let's call it "priceless."
As we approach the meeting, it seems three things are paramount: 1. Series format: consider a series that pleases our riders having enough events to satisfy them, pleases our organizers in that can they really support a three day event without "burning out" the troops from the local club , and can we do this during the summer when our kids can do it? 2. Entry fees: IF we have a surplus this year, what should we do with it? and, 3. How can we bring money from outside the sport through sponsorship to help offset some of the costs? On the latter note, I had some good conversations recently with a couple of individuals that may take some leadership on this. We will see.
Ok, so everyone probably also heard about the other "survey" I did: asking who will do a national next year. So far (and this is VERY tentative right now) it is looking like Vermont and NY back to back in July. I need to hear from Texhoma and Tennessee, but of those present at Duluth, that's what I heard.
Anyhow, if you have thoughts on these matters, please get with your club representative. If you have no representative, email me. Always take into account the viewpoint of a rider, an organizer and or a club worker bee to ensure your ideas are well thought through.
Finally, thanks to all of the riders, organizers and NATC volunteers, it was a great year. Now we can relax and lend our support to Kip and the US TdN team as they prepare for Andorra. Best of luck to the SWM/NATC Team USA! Brian Posted by: Brian Behling on August 28, 2008 11:41 PM |
